Osmanu's Story

oleh Michael Southcott, 17 Januari 2017, 04:45 AM

Osmanu is a former participant of Foundation Training at EQWIP HUBs. He is from Accra and is now an established young professional working in Tamale.

“I felt that, after coming out of university and having completed my National Service, it was really important for me to equip myself with the skills to survive in the world of work. Wanting to add more value to what I already had made me want to sign up to EQWIP HUBs Tamale.”

“The two main things I gained from training were communication - how to really approach people in the field of work, and overall how to come together and work as a team to reach a common goal. The training really added a lot of value to my personal development. It taught me patience, to be resilient, and above all, to hammer on opportunities. Coming into the Hub gave me the opportunity to meet people and talk to them on what I want and the opportunities I want to explore. It added a lot of self-confidence to me as a person.”

Osmanu is now working at Wooden Bakery and Café Shop as a Public Relations Officer, Events Manager, and Staff Supervisor. He is in the forefront of customer service, where he engages with people from different cultures and enjoys adding to the experiences of others. “With regards to event planning, a key factor I picked up from the Hub is time management. You need to set your target and your agenda.”

When asked about his favourite memories of the Hub, Osmanu answered: “The people I have met at the Hub and the love and support they have shown me has really been of great value. The event ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women’ was a very memorable event. Overall, the feeling and sense of belonging whenever you walk into the Hub was great.”

“It is quite sad that in our part of the world we don’t have all the avenues to harness opportunities to achieve our dreams. People ask me why I would leave Accra and come to the North. There are a lot of opportunities here, we just need to find the avenues to get to them, and that is exactly what the Hub is doing. Anyone who is out there and is thinking that they don’t have the opportunities to achieve their dreams, I would encourage them to come to the Hub.”
